Media Cash In After Social Media Resurrects Girl Killed By Snake Bite

A little girl who died from a snake bite has been resurrected so she can die again on their pages after her tragic tale went viral again on social media with people who thought it had only just happened.

Google is partly to blame as they divert traffic to articles on news sites based on the numerous queries that started to be made from those who saw the viral social media postings.

So when a flood of people shared the story they rushed to news sites to find out more, which equals thousands of clicks and advertising revenue, even though the story is old.

In this case, it also meant it is being dragged out again for the relatives of the child who died.

The six-year-old died when she was bitten and killed by a snake in the bathroom of her family home in Saudi Arabia – but it happened in September 2021.

The victim, little Tamara Abdul Rahman, was killed at her home in the city of Abha in the south-western Saudi Arabian region of ‘Asir Province.

The young girl was taken to the Asir Central Hospital, where her condition quickly worsened and she was subsequently moved to the intensive care unit, where she died shortly afterwards.

But she was resurrected in order to die again on social media, with people flooding the comments with condolences for the family.

Several local newspapers rushed to report about it and give details of what happened, also mentioning the passing that was over a year old, but by that time, they had already obtained clicks.

A growing number of newspapers are recycling old stories in order to get traffic, in many cases not even mentioning the fact that they happened many years ago.

There is also a rush to fill in the holiday period with a lack of news included.
