A journalist wearing a Lula sticker needed stitches to her face after a suspected Bolsonaro supporter brutally attacked her in the street.
Shocking CCTV footage shows how the assailant tried to corner freelance journalist Magalea Mazziotti before apparently flooring her with a punch to the head.
He could then be seen striking the 43-year-old again and again as she lay on the pavement before calmly walking away.
The incident took place in the centre of Curitiba, Parana State, southern Brazil on 27th October.
Magalea believes she was attacked because she was wearing a sticker of Lula, who went on to win the second round of Brazil’s general election on 30th October.
The journalist – who has done freelance work for CNN Brasil – believes her assailant was a supporter of left-wing Lula’s right-wing rival Jair Bolsonaro.
Magalea told local media in the wake of the attack: “I was going to meet my friends and I was attacked, I don’t know if it’s because I’m wearing stickers of Lula.
“My face was cut, they didn’t take anything. And I think it was because I’m wearing stickers of Lula showing who I’m going to vote for on Sunday.”
She repeated: “I have a bump on my head and my face was cut.”
Local media reported that Magalea required stitches to her face and was left with bruises all over her body.
She reported the incident to police in Curitiba the next day.
Police are investigating the case, but the suspect’s identity remained unclear at the time of reporting.
