Brazilian Cop Suspected Of Shooting Dead Trans Journalist In Motel

This is the moment a suspected cop flees in his car after shooting dead a trans journalist and actress in Brazil.

Otto de Souza Rodrigues, known as ‘Manuella Otto’, was shot twice inside a room at the Minha Pousada motel in the Brazilian city of Manaus in the early hours of 13th February.

The 25-year-old’s dead body was later identified by her mother.

An autopsy showed one bullet hit the victim in the arm and the other penetrated her chest after entering her back.

Manuella worked as a journalist and was also an actress in a children’s theatre company and she organised events in the city.

According to local media, she also earned extra income as a prostitute which may have been how she ended up with the cop.

The police are looking into the crime amid suspicion that the man who committed it is also a policeman.

The suspect was filmed fleeing the motel shortly after allegedly firing the shots while wielding a pistol and covering his face with a T-shirt.

The vehicle filmed on camera reportedly belongs to police officer Jeremias da Costa Silva, who has not yet been located by the police and is believed to have gone into hiding.

He had not been working due to a health problem, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Trans activist and historian Michele Pires Lima told local media: “Brazil is the country that kills the most trans people, transvestites, trans women and trans men in the world.

“So we don’t want to see Manuella become another statistic. We want justice to be served in some way.”

Manuella was buried in the cemetery of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Manaus on 15th February.

The investigation continues.
